First off, I'm by no means an expert in this area, but the following is a "Beginner's Guide" for those that have never tackled this before and perhaps have some insights for those that are just starting out. As time, experience and knowledge permits, I'll update this from time to time.
Ingredients
Video Camera
An obvious inclusion - there are a huge number of video camera on the market, from compact cameras with video shooting capabilities, so called sports video cameras (Like Go-Pro and (my personal favourite - Drift HD Ghost and dedicated video cameras. The choice is yours, just make sure you select one for the type of video shooting and environment/action you will be using it in. It is recommended that you consider a high definition (1080P) camera for best results - although this is not essential.
Movie Editor
Most if not all raw footage will be playable on both your computer or TV (via an appropriate cable) - but most of us will probably want to edit the raw footage in some way, splicing multiple footage together, removing unwanted material, adding banners, captions, credits, effects, voice over, voice removal, sound track and so on - some cameras come with their own editing suite - if not, or if you prefer, you can download any range of video editing software - from my experience (to date), one of the best and easiest to use is Windows Movie Maker - and, the best bit, it's free.

ADDING MUSIC
If you wish to add music to your video be warned that the use of copyrighted material may result in your audio being muted by Video Host (see below) provider - this will of course include all narrative audio as well. Repetition of this practice may result in you being prevented from uploading videos to your host account or even having your video host account suspended or deleted.
Royalty Free Music - here is a list of some Royalty Free Music (see note below):
Amazon
Jamendo - requires sign in
MP3.com
Purple Planet
Incomtech
Royalty Free Music
Website List
Note - It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you quote the song and source and make a statement that royalty free rights subsists in your movie trailing credits - this SHOULD result in your video sound track being accepted.
Host
If you want post your video in the forum, you will need to host (store) the video online somewhere - you cannot just upload your video to the forum - this allows you to link to the video - either as a html link or by (and this is the best and preferred method) imbedding the video. Again there are a number of video content hosting providers - You Tube and Vimeo are just two hosts supported by this forum. You Tube still appears to be the most popular - but it's owned by Google so you'll need to create an account and video channel first - a far from pleasant experience!
Upload Your Video
Once created, your video will need to be uploaded and processed by your Host - BE WARNED - this process can take a VERY long time - especially with You Tube - so you need to be patient.
....more to come
