One of these stories is very similar to a story my Dad told me years ago, my Dad was a pilot, he started learning to fly when he was 16, he won a competition in Sydney for a free flying lesson and from the moment the aeroplane left the ground he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life and he flew until he retired. Anyway, the flying school he learned to fly with employed quite a few pilots, several of which were ex Luftwaffe pilots who had emigrated after the war. One Friday after the flying lesson a bunch of the blokes were having a few beers and one of the German fellas was telling some of the boys about his home town of Berlin. One of the Aussie pilots joined in the conversation and clearly knew a lot about the city being able to describe landmarks and important buildings with great detail. The German bloke asked him "You seem to know Berlin well, have you been there before?" "Yes," he said, "Many times mate." The German pilot continued, "What did you think of Berlin? You must know it well." To which came the reply, "Not really, it was always dark and we never stopped."
My Dad told me there was a stunned silence for a minute before the German grabbed his beer, got up and walked away. To be honest it was a bit cruel.
